Abstract:
Instructions for beginning six different accounts -- Cash, The Treasury of the United States, House Expences [sic], Servants Accounts, Stable & Carriages, Contingent Expences [sic] -- for the running of the office of the President. Document includes directions on what is to be charged and credited to each account. Following this list are four notes regarding accounts for the Steward of the Household, and directions to settle all the accounts four times each year.
The second item is an account of Mr. Lewis' salary 1 May 1789-1 March 1791, though whether written out as an example of how the 'Accounts to be raised ... ' should be completed or as the actual accounting of his salary is unclear. Phrasing such as "If therefore an allowance of 600 Dollars ..." perhaps indicates the former.
