Abstract:

Part 1 of Africans in America recounts history's largest forced migration and its economic benefits. After settling North American colonies, England joins Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands in the slave trade, abducting millions of Africans as laborers. Nearly a quarter of them die during the crossing. In America, Europeans rely on African labor to transform a continent, but come to fear the growing sub-population, sparking brutality.
