Abstract:

Profiles critical events in the civil rights struggle, from Muhammad Ali's refusal to serve in the army during the Vietnam War to the National Black Political Convention in Gary, Indiana, in 1972. Explores the steps Afro-Americans were taking to reclaim their heritage, including demand in educational institutions for courses with an African American perspective, as well as becoming more involved in the political process. Examines the Black Panther Party and its impact on the civil rights movement in terms of the violent attitude it projected. Explores FBI interest in the Black Panthers and their attempts to halt its activities.
