Abstract:

"The Alabama Experience is television's most complete and compelling look at Alabama. Twice each week this award winning documentary thoughtfully examines Alabama's fascinating people and remarkable history. ... Alabama author William Bradford Huie sold 28 million books and seven of them were made into Hollywood movies. He also invented checkbook journalism when he investigated civil rights murders. This program profiles one of this century's most successful and controversial writers."--Alabama Experience WWW site. Uses photographs, archival footage, film clips, and interviews with journalists, authors, family and friends, and Huie himself to tell the story of Huie's life and work. Focuses on the major stories Huie covered, including WWII and the murders of Emmett Till, Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner and James Chaney, and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Includes clips from The Americanization of Emily and The execution of Private Slovik, and WWII footage of D-Day and the Pacific Campaign.
