Economist and chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, Alan Greenspan is considered by many to be the second most powerful man in the United States. From 1981-1983 he served as chairman of the National Commission on Social Security Reform working to save Social Security from bankruptcy. In 1987 he was nominated as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board and under his guidence the US economy has enjoyed the largest peacetime expansion in history.
