Abstract:

Letters, diaries, scrapbooks, and account books, concentrated largely in the 1880-1898 period. For the years 1879-1884, when Dollenmayer was an enlisted man in the United States Army, his correspondence with military colleagues describes life at Jefferson Barracks (Missouri), Fort Sully (Dakota Territory), and Fort Russell (Wyoming Territory), as well as a Texas surveying expedition (1881). There is information on his subsequent career in Minneapolis (Minn.) as a newspaper reporter (1888-1898), and on Minnesota and North Dakota politics.

Other subjects reflected in family correspondence and account books include life in several California cities (1886-1891), watchmaking, the 1932 U.S. presidential election, German economic conditions (1929-1932), Albert's Minneapolis advertising agency, speculation in British Columbia lands (1913), Eva MacDonald Valesh, and Henry George and the single tax movement.
