Abstract:

The 39 steps: Richard Hannay is on vacation in London when he meets a mysterious woman who tells him of a spy ring which she is trying to crack. She doesn't know the identity of the masterspy, but does know a few revealing details. She is murdered before Hannay can learn anything more. His own life now in danger, Hannay sets out to solve a mystery. Young and innocent: A chase-within-a-chase film about a writer wrongly suspected of murder, who enlists the unwilling aid of a detective's daughter to catch the real criminal and prove his innocence. The lady vanishes: A young woman on a train, enroute back to England from Switzerland, meets a charming older lady who promptly disappears. The other passengers deny ever having seen her, leading the young woman into a complex web of mystery and high adventure. Rich and strange: Instead of waiting for their inheritance, Fred and Emily Hill ask for it in advance. Their rich uncle surprisingly obliges. They set out to use the money in the best possible way--by spending it.
