| Notes: | "Trial issue." Say's "trial issue" [1817] of a portion of Vol. 1, containing six plates only and described by the author himself as "never really published." The quality of the plates, in drawing and in coloring, is extraordinary; the accuracy of the descriptions has earned for Say the title of "the father of descriptive entomology in America." This is one of two copies known to Scudder, and is from the Le Conte library. It was given to Dr. Le Conte by Daniel Ziegler, who received it from Dr. F. Melsheimer, June, 1837. One of the rarest of American Entomological books-the first attempt by Say to issue his American Entomology, of which rf\no more was published until 1824. Amer. Ent. Soc. |
