Abstract:

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame at Amiens, located north of Paris and built in the 50 years after 1220, offers an extraordinary vision of Gothic space and structure, expressing the zenith of medieval technical prowess. Through film images, digital modeling and animation, these films reveal how the Cathedral is encoded as an image of heaven, the way it was built, and why it nearly collapsed. Part one gives a view of the cathedral and the area that surrounds it. Part two is made up of computer animation showing the design and construction of the cathedral.
