Personal and business correspondence, newspaper clippings, menus collected from social events, photographs of family members, friends, and properties owned, and other documents, originally placed in scrapbooks by French and then retained by him, making marginal notations throughout which have been retained in the refilling of the collection.

Includes contributions from family members such as his mother, Mrs. F.O. French, uncle, Edward Tuck, first wife, Pauline LeRoy French, sisters, cousin, Daniel Chester French, and his children, especially Stuyvesant French, highlighting both social and world events; together with correspondence with prominent people of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era whose names are still associated with business, politics, and society, such as John Jacob Astor, A.D. Juilliard, Pierre Lorrilard, J.P. Morgan, Gen. John J. Pershing, Endicott Peabody, John D. Rockefeller, James Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Leverett Saltonstall, Capt. E.J. Smith of the Titanic, William Vanderbilt, and Stanford White.
