Abstract:

The objects illustrated in this booklet come from the ancient Near East -- that stretch of land around the eastern Mediterranean Sea now occupied by the states of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. Although the collection is not large, it is quite comprehensive and if the visitor will realize that minor arts in the area usually reflected the style and subject matter of the great monuments, he may gain a fairly good impression of the art of the ancient Near East. - Introduction.
