Chiefly correspondence re death and settlement of the estate of Pierce Mason Butler.

Including two letters, 15 Jan. 1855, Savannah, Ga. and 28 July 1855, Bluffton, S.C., re a lottery held 8 years after death of P.M. Butler to draw lots for Texas real estate held by South Carolina Land Company shareholders; letter, 20 Jan. 1828, Columbia, S.C., to William Butler Harrison, Loudoun County, Va., re the Butler Family in South Carolina, death of grandfather James Butler in the Revolution, and request for genealogical information.

Letter, 18 Jan. 1848, Columbia, S.C., from William Butler, re internment in Trinity Church yard; letter, 31 Mar. 1850, to Rev. C[halmers] M[oore] Butler, Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, re death of John C. Calhoun, tentative funeral plans, and requesting that Butler deliver the funeral sermon. Other areas represented include Washington, D.C., Edgefield, S.C., and elsewhere.
