"Georg Ruxner's, Anfang, Upsprung und Herkommen des Thurniers inn Teutscher Nation [Siemern, 1530], presents a historical sketch of tournaments held in Germany from the 10th century to the one held in Worms in 1487. The text provides information on the origin and ritual of the tournament, descriptions and lists of participants, while the 41 woodcuts give action pictures and scenes of the dances and festivities that were as essential a part as the fighting itself. There are also 246 cuts of the coats of arms of notable warriors." -- Michigan State University Libraries Special Collections website (30 Aug. 2006).
Two of the woodcuts, the coat of arms of Charles V and that of Duke Johann II. of Simmern (versos of 1st and 8th unnumbered leaves) include the initials H.H. In the 2nd woodcut they form part of the motto: Mein Liebe in Erenn. H.H. Pf. G. Z. S., which stand for Herzog Hans [i.e. Johann] Pfalzgraf zu Simmern. A ms. note in LC's 2nd copy refers to hans Lencker's Perspectiva (Nuremberg, 1571) in which the credit is given to the duke as illustrator. cf. card for 1530 ed. in L.C. cat. -- Michigan State University Libraries Special Collections on-line catalog.
