注意： Text-figure 1.-Territories of chickadees in June 1940. The boundary of the Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve is indicated by heavy solid line. Chickadee territories at maximum size defended are indicated by heavy dotted lines. Solid lines between territories indicate points where actual boundary disputes were observed between adjacent pairs. The habitat classification is as follows: (1) abandoned fields, herb and shrub stages; (1a) abandoned fields, artificially planted to conifers 10-13 years ago; (2) young forests or 'second growths'; (2a) hedgerows; (3) mature forests of beech-maple, beech-hemlock, etc.
