Abstract:

Vol. 1 provides a basic understanding of the major groups of microorganisms that cause infection including such concepts as Gram stain. Discusses assessment of the client with an infection and describes processes, such as identification of the causative organism, and culture and sensitivity testing, involved in identifying the most effective anti-infective drug regimen. Vol. 2 presents an overview of bacterial pathogens. Discusses major categories of antibiotics, describes their actions, and highlights adverse reactions and precautions for the most commonly prescribed drugs. Demonstrates, using case studies, principles and practices of nursing care recommended when caring for clients who are receiving antibiotic agents. Vol. 3 discusses the three general categories of anti-infective agents and their actions in the body. Presents groups of typical infections and the anti-infective agents most effective in treatment. Highlights possible adverse reactions, and precautions recommended when administering these medications. Details, using case studies, the principles and practices of nursing care required to effectively care for clients receiving these anti-infective agents.
