These files document Governor Charles Scott's use of the governor's power and privilege to accept resignations and to appoint citizens to civil offices, such as judge, sheriff, justice of the peace, coroner, surveyor, notary public, penitentiary agent, and Tennessee-Kentucky boundary-line commissioner. Included are official appointment orders, resignation letters, letters recommending individuals for the governor's consideration, rejections of appointments, a certification of oath of office, and a resignation of Secretary of State Jesse Bledsoe.
