The Spanish architecture in Morocco, as represented by the works of Diego Jeminez and Emilio Blanco Izaga, was elaborated in response to colonial ideological goals. The style of Jeminez, as seen in the Cervantes Theater, was an attempt at giving Tangier a European outlook. Bianco Izaga's style, which emphasized Berber elements to the total exclusion of any Arabo-Islamic influence, was aimed at furthering a racial and ethnic colonial policy.
