The recipes for the several "compositions" are printed with blanks where the ingredients should be listed; the actual ingredients were apparently supplied only to selected purchasers by the author. Evidence for this is supplied on p. , which states: "These directions, when filled up, are not to be left exposed to the examination of such as may desire to possess themselves of their secrets. But should, for the benefit of the Patentee as well as the purchaser, be strictly kept from the public eye."
