This timely article reflects on Rent, one of the most socially influential musical shows on Broadway that ended its lengthy run in June 2008.   This show was credited with drawing a younger, more diverse audience into the theater, while inspiring the development of other shows.  Newer productions are discussed and lauded as celebrations of diversity and culture.
