Abstract:

The collection consists of the materials relating to Atticus G. Haygood and the Haygood family from 1861-1952. The papers relating to Atticus G. Haygood include loose and bound clippings of writings by and about him, a small amount of correspondence, his Civil War chaplain pass, sermons/addresses, and photographs. The collection also contains genealogical materials about the Haygood family, and the related families of Trotti, Thompson, Stroud, and Robison. The materials include bible records, family registers, photographs, correspondence, and genealogies. The family papers also include a composition book of Laura Askew Haygood (1843-1900), Bishop Haygood's sister, who was an educator and Methodist missionary to China. The book contains letters from October 23, 1864-June 1, 1868; as well as some of her writings.
