Abstract:

This volume asks 51 artists to answer 13 questions about the origins, conditions and possibilities of art. It features emerging and established artists including Marina Abramovic, Doug Aitken, Vanessa Beecroft, Thomas Hirschhorn, Terence Koh, Los Carpinteros, Jonathan Meese, Mariko Mori, Ernesto Neto, Yinka Shonibare, Jessica Stockholder and Ai Weiwei. This work intends to be an invitation to see the world and art through the eyes of artists. In it, the world is shown in the way that it is understood and felt by the participating artists -- open and clear, cryptically mysterious, comfortable and unbearable at the same time.
