Abstract:

Autograph album, 1852-1853, of Evelina Nack of New York City and presented to her by her father the poet James Nack, Jan. 4, 1852. Entries include poems and verses, many of them evidently authored by the signers, and include pieces by James Nack, George P. Morris, Charles Edwards, Edward Masterson, and Hannah Moore. The volume also includes examples of decorative calligraphy and 5 full page humorous drawings executed in pencil, along with two watercolor illustrations featuring tableaus contrasting the subjects of war and peace. Album rebacked and retaining original black lacquered boards with decorative mother of pearl inlay in a painted floral design.
