Saying that I medici has just been given with a success twice that of Pagliacci, that the German and Italian press report unanimously on its success, asking why only Nevers and Thompson, the two representatives of the English press, are against him, explaining that he once refused Thompson a loan of 2,000 francs, asking if an artist who sees his work crowned with success should be the victim of a "maître chanteur," mentioning Cowen, Sonzogno, Ricordi, etc.
