| Notes: | Written on stationery with the location indicated in the author's hand as, " Arthur Severn's, 28. Herne Hill S E." Date of writing from postmarks. An unidentified pencil notation at the bottom of p.1 indicates that the two girls referred to in the letter were Rachel Gurney (later the Countess of Dudley) and her sister Laura, later Lady Troubridge. The girls were the granddaughters of Henry Thoby Prinsep at whose home, Little Holland House, Watts was living and painting. Part of a collection of letters from John Ruskin to Francis H. Abstract:
Hoping to pay him a visit on Thursday; complimenting him on his portrait of "those two girls" adding that "I think I shall set up in my old age for a portrait painter -- Landscape is dull by itself."
