Great addition to the library   (2010-03-03)

The illustrations by Floyd Cooper are glorious, very life like, and absolutely essential to the text of this book. You might need to activate the background of some students because this book begins December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. Does that ring any bells? Well, that is the day lady from a tailors shop sits her eyes all fierce like a lightning story, and does not move from her seat. I think this picture book could have many uses - in history classes, as part of a biography unit, or an African American history celebration in grades 2-9.
