Abstract:

"Soul-searching is in short supply--but not humor--when Walters interviews Billy Crystal, Jay Leno and Robin Williams. Crystal recalls the popularity of his Fernando character on Saturday Night Live ('I think it was his insincere sincerity') and how he developed his Sammy Davis Jr. impression after they worked together at a resort ('You just can't help but leave a room talking like him'). He also discusses the death of his father, and the normalcy of his home life ('We car pool, we go to PTA'). Leno chats about the inoffensiveness of his humor; his loyalty to Johnny Carson; his virtually nonstop schedule ("I think this is the only time in American history when you're considered a bit odd if you work hard'); and the genesis of the comedy career in Miss Allen's 4th-grade class. Williams begins his segment relatively calmly, by talking about his 2-month-old daughter Zelda; how he studied political science (at Claremont Men's College) and then dramtic acting at the Julliard School before turning to comedy; his early, unsuccessful films ... cont.

Summary continues: ... ('It was scary when you see a movie on cable before it actually came out'); and the death of his friend John Belushi ('Basically, it cleaned up a whole generation'). But by the end, it's classic, no-holds-barred, off-the-wall Robin Williams"--TV guide.
