Piccoli stars as a famous artist who has suffered painter's block since abandoning his masterpiece, a painting of his wife Liz, entitled L̀a Belle Noiseuse'. Disturbing tensions develop when a young artist and his girlfriend, visiting him in his South of France retreat, inspire him to return to the canvas, using the girl as his new model.
