Abstract:

Scrapbooks, programs, posters, audio and video tapes, promotional materials for performances held, photos of productions and performers, and other records, documenting the history of the playhouse, a summer theater established 1928 when the building housing the Stockbridge Casino was purchased by Mabel Choate, subsequently moved, and sold to the Three Arts Society which managed it until 1966 when it was taken over by the Berkshire Theater Festival; together with minute books, art exhibition catalogs, membership lists, architectural drawings, and other records (1886-1928) of the Stockbridge Casino. Persons represented include Joseph Hodges Choate, David Dudley Field, Daniel Chester French, Stanford White, and such theater personalities as Montgomery Clift, William Gibson, Katharine Hepburn, Eva Le Gallienne, and Arthur Penn.
