Documents his research on compulsive behavior, elation, psychoanalytic education, and dreams; and his work as cofounder of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, New York, N.Y. (1931), president of the New York Psychoanalytic Society, New York, N.Y. (1936-1937) and the American Psychoanalytic Association (1946-1947), director of the American Psychoanalytic Association survey of psychoanalytic education (1955-1961), and professor of psychoanalysis and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh (1962-1971).
