Between the Acts is Virgina Woolf's last novel, published in 1941 just after her death. It is about the staging of a traditional pageant play by a small community somewhere in the English countryside. Beneath the surface plot, the novel is about the destructive stress war places on communities and individuals -- the title Between the Acts alludes to the period between the First and Second World Wars.
