Abstract:
A study of three figures in East European Jewry, each viewed as an archetype for the main ideological movements in the Jewish scene before the Holocaust: haim Zhitlowski, a founder of Jewish socialist nationalism; Simon Dubnow, the father of jewish diaspora nationalism; and ahad ha'am, the father of spiritual zionism and a key influence on the generation of zionist leaders responsible for the creation of the state of israel.
