From humble beginnings in Houston, Texas, Beyonc ̌Knowles has overcome many disappointments early in her career to emerge as one of her generation's most gifetd and successful performers. Under the guidance of her father, Mathew, who quit his salesman job to be her full time manager, Beyonc ̌first gained national attention as a founding member of the girl-group Destiny's Child, which burst onto the music scene in 1997 with the multi-platinum #1 singe, No, No, No, from their self-titled debut album. The multiple grammy-winnign troup's second album, The Writing's on the Wall, sold more than nine million copies worldwide.
