The interview begins with Land's early years in San Diego, California and his entrance into the jazz scene of Los Angeles during the mid-50s, then continues through his long career as a saxophonist active as both bandleader and sideman. Major topics of discussion include jazz musicians and venues in Los Angeles, Land's tenure with the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet in 1954 through 1955, his involvement as a co-leader with Red Mitchell, Bobby Hutcherson and Blue Mitchell, and his association as a sideman with such artists as Thelonious Monk, Gerald Wilson, and Tony Bennett.
