Abstract:

The interview begins with Nels Cline's childhood in Los Angeles and his family's musical background, and continues on to his early musical exploits and up to his current projects as a guitar player. Major topics include Cline's childhood musical education, the influence of blues and jazz on his guitar playing, music recording with his twin brother, Alex, his college education at Occidental College, interest in Punk Rock music, the creation of his own jazz trio and his membership in several rock and jazz bands, and his more recent interest in musical improvisation. A full discography, from 1979 to 2005 is included (p. x-xxiv).
