A new edition of the Sixtine-Clementine Vulgate, or "Clementine Bible". It was prepared because of critical reception of the Sixtine Vulgate (1590), by a commission under the direction of Marco Antonio Colonna.
ABS copy: bound in black leather over cardboards. Richly gilted designs on both covers. Gold border designs around inside edges of covers. Red and gold ornamental designs on end papers. Gilt edges. Title, "Biblia Sacra", in gold on front cover and spine.
Text printed in verse form, double column, single red rule down center of page, with verse nos. indented in matching type. Entire printed page within red rules. Title and chapter no. centered at top of page between rules. Chapter no. centered in column. Chapter summaries in red italics. References in margins. Engraved initials indented over 8 lines at the beginning of Genesis, over 6 lines at the beginning of books, and over 4 lines at the beginning of chapters. Engravings at the beginning of each book. Full-page engraving of the Holy Trinity at the beginning of both Genesis and Matthew.
