Abstract:

Approximately 1,000 people in the United States die from injuries caused by bicycle crashes each year. Dr. Rivara examines the magnitude and extent of bicycle-related head injuries and the potential effect of increased helmet use. Ms. Rogers demonstrates how to form and evaluate bicycle helmet programs and emphasizes the physician's role in increasing the use of helmets in their communities.

Research has turned to gene therapy as the next frontier for the treatment of many genetic diseases caused by enzyme deficiencies. Using Gaucher's Disease as a model, Dr. Barranger explores major questions related to approaches to human disease using gene therapy.
