According to Musser's Edison motion pictures, 1890-1900, there are two films with the title Black Diamond express, no. 1. On p. 249, entry 262, Black Diamond express (filmed in 1896 in Lake Cayuga, New York) has a variant title of Black Diamond express, no. 1. On p. 292, entry 316, has a main title of Black Diamond express, no. 1 (filmed in 1897, near Towanda, Pennsylvania). Descriptions of each film in secondary sources are similar.
LC's 16 mm. print has been viewed for content and appears to be the 1897 film, filmed in Pennsylvania.
Two 35 mm. lengths, 50 ft. and 150 ft., are given in Edison motion pictures, 1890-1900. This film is probably the shorter film, as it appears to be complete.
