George Rowan, President of MSU Black Faculty Association, opens the program. Associate Provost Robert Banks offers greetings. Curtis Stokes, professor in MSU's James Madison College and co-chair of the conference, introduces Harold Cruse, Professor Emeritus of the University of Michigan. Cruse outlines the history of the alliance between the Black and Jewish communities over a seventy year period. Barry Gross, co-chair of the conference, introduces Larry Thomas. Thomas is a philosopher and seeks reasons for the alliance and disagreements among Jews and Blacks in the western tradition.
