Abstract:

English Professor Barry Gross and James Madison professor Curtis Stokes are co-sponsors of the conference. The principal speakers at this session are: MSU History professor Richard Thomas, whose formal lecture includes written handouts and an overhead projector display in a detailed discussion of Jewish involvement in the civil rights movement, in the defense of the Scottsboro Boys, and the relationship between Thurgood Marshall and Jackson Greenberg; and Linda Silverman, recently retired President of the Michigan Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League, who talks of her groups monthly meetings with the NAACP, and about the success of the Detroit area interracial seder. A long question and answer session follows, which includes a statement by MSU English professor Ken Harrow.
