Abstract:

The blind gambler and swordsman hitches a ride with an acting troupe on their way to the town of Tonda. On arriving, he discovers the town is overrun by yakuza, and soon uses his sword to slay them en masse. A retired swordsmith named Senzo observes the fight and discovers Zatoichi's sword was forged by his old teacher. He declares the sword's life to be over when it claims its next victim, causing Zatoichi to swear off killing forever. But willhe kill again ... or instead face death unarmed and alone?
