Abstract:

Looks at the political action behind the leadup to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. In particular, the concentration of power in the hands of a few, that is, John Coates, President of the Australian Olympic Committee, and Michael Knight, NSW Minister for the Olympics and president of SOCOG. Is this duopoly a reasonable way to go or is it another case of jobs for the (A.L.P.) boys? Typical Four corners thoroughness teases out the grimy politics, dirty deals and personal vendettas behind the scenes of what has become just another dirty game, and taxpayer-funded milch-cow, for the powerbrokers. Interviewees include: John Coates, Michael Knight, Phil Coles, SallyAnne Atkinson, Graham Richardson, Rod McGeoch and Andrew Thompson.
