Abstract:

Documentary film about Brandon Teena, who arrived in rural Falls City, Nebraska, in 1993 where he finds some new friends. Three weeks later he is brutally raped and beaten by friends who discover that he is actually a woman. A week later the same two men murder Teena along with two other people-- Lisa Lambert, and Philip DeVine. This is a tale of Brandon's coming of age struggle with identity and how his gender ambiguity induced feelings of betrayal, confusion and hostility among residents of a town in America's heartland. This documentary was the inspiration for Oscar-winning film Boy's Don't Cry.

"To his girlfriends, he was the perfect boyfriend. To his killers, he was a freak. To the law, he got what he deserved. Ultimately, Brandon Teena became an American tragedy ... Featuring interviews with those who loved him, those who hated him, and the prison inmates who sealed his fate, as well as a new interview with the filmakers and never-before-seen footage ... [this film] is a ... tale of prejudice and hatred in America's heartland."--Container.
