Numéro OCLC : 873848742
Note sur la langue : Latin.
Notes : Ms. codex.
Title supplied by cataloger.
Layout: Written in two columns, 30-36 lines; frame-ruled in ink; prick-marks obscured by trimmed edges.
Script: Written in a variety of Anglicana hands, dating to ca. 1400, with some additions from later in the 15th century, especially in the calendar.
Decoration: 1. Representation of a Zodiac man at 54r, drawn in ink over the ruling intended for text -- 2. Rudimentary musical notation drawn at 55v -- 3. Decorated catch-words, with borders sometimes assuming the representation of scrolls -- 4. Initials (4- to 7-line) in blue alone or red and blue with floriated penwork decoration, either red alone or red and blue -- 5. Alternating red and blue penwork initials throughout -- 6. Rubricated text and initials throughout.
Binding: Bound in calf over boards, gilt on spine, with tooled ornamental devices on both covers; possibly late 18th- or early 19th-century.
Imperfections: 1. Text begins and ends imperfectly -- 2. Codex is missing several leaves -- 3. Most of fol. 134 and 269 have been torn away.
Origin: Presumably copied in northern England, ca. 1400.
Provenance: 1. Armorial bookplate on front inside cover (motto: Dominus dedit) appears to be that of William Constable-Maxwell, Lord Herries (1804-1876), of Everingham Park, Yorkshire, as per description in Burke's The General Armory, p. 672 -- 2. Purchased from Quaritch, 11 August 1959.
Shelf-mark: Urbana, IL, University of Illinois Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Pre-1650 MS 0130.
Description : 271 leaves : parchment ; 175 x 114 (138 x 92) mm. bound to 180 x 125 mm.
Contenu : 1. fol. 1r-47v: [General rubrics]: "[text] [...] [et] co[n]firmans cetera que moritura erant. Inv[itatorium] ut s[upr]a. A[ntiphona]. Pastor bon[us] a[n]i[m]am sua[m] p[ro] ovib[us] ... Résumé :

Manuscript copy of the York Breviary, starting imperfectly with the second Sunday after Easter, which corresponds to vol. 1, col. 448 in the 19th-century Surtees edition. The manuscript roughly follows the Surtees edition until fol. 109r, when it proceeds directly to the Sanctoral cycle, beginning with the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle (vol. 2, col. 83 in the edition). Unlike the edition, which has the Common of Saints before the Sanctoral, this version sets the Common at the end of the text, which concludes imperfectly at 271v. Lacking the subsequent quire, it terminates in the midst of a reading from Bede's commentary on the Gospel of Luke (cf. CCSL, 120; Stegm̈uller, 1614) , to be read for a confessor who was not a bishop (corresponding to vol. 2, col. 44 in the Surtees edition).
