Abstract:

You're constantly referring back to this memory of observed color, says Brice Marden, known for his muted, monochromatic panels. After a few seconds of footage from 1968 of the artist working, this powerful program moves into 1976, providing an intimate look at the enigmatic abstract painter. Filmed in 16mm shortly after his 1975 exhibition at the Guggenheim, the video uses interviews with Marden and numerous shots of his preparations and working process-mixing wax with pigment, and applying it with sandpaper and razor blades-to reveal the depth of intellectual creativity behind what he does.
