Abstract:

Dr. Ernest Chijioke Madu is the founder of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, a revolutionary first-class clinic for cardiovascular diseases with locations in Kingston and Mandeville, Jamaica, and in the Cayman Islands. His next stop is Nigeria, his home country, where he intends to open the Heart Institute of West Africa. Dr. Madu emphasizes the importance of treating cardiovascular disease, the second leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa after HIV/AIDS and the leading cause of death for people over 30. In this TEDTalk, Madu discusses the careful design, smart technical choices, and true desire to serve that make it possible to offer world-class healthcare in the developing world.
