Abstract:

The bulk of the collection comprises estate, household, and personal accounts of 2nd and 3rd Dukes of Chandos. The estate accounts are for Hampshire (chiefly Avington), with much additional material for Middlesex (including the Canons and Minchenden House) and Somerset (chiefly Keynsham and Rodney Stoke). There are also some accounts for Brydges' properties in Cheshire, Heresfordshire, Derbyshire, and Randorshire. The household accounts pertain chiefly to Avington, with some early pieces for Cannons.

The personal accounts cover mostly the period after 1720's, with some 17th century material for families related to the Brydges (including Keck and Poole, and John Nicolls). The accounts cover clothing, books, newspapers, stationary, schooling, gifts, travel, charities, etc. Also included are business and legal accounts, chiefly bonds, with additional accounts of debts and investments and some bills for legal services.
