Mary Jane Kingsbury Buckner; Henry Walter Kingsbury; Ambrose Everett Burnside; William K McAllister; Illinois. Supreme Court.
|Notes:||Includes a summary of the case, which involved the recovery of Mary J. Kingsbury Buckner's rightful share of half of the Kingsbury estate in Chicago, followed by: State of Illinois, Supreme Court, Central Grand Division. Henry W. Kingsbury et al. vs. Ambrose Burnside et al., and Mary J. Buckner et al. vs. Henry Kingsbury et al. Appeal from Cook County. Opinion of the court by M'Allister, judge.
The Buckner-Kingsbury suit was remanded to the Illinois Supreme Court in January and the decision rendered on Oct. 6, 1871. This summary was published on Oct. 9, 1871, as a supplement to the Louisville daily ledger, Louisville, Ky., noting that "the great fire [i.e., Chicago, Oct. 8-9, 1871] alone has enabled the Ledger to anticipate the publication of this interesting opinion in Chicago." Cf. Stickles, A.M. Simon Bolivar Buckner, 1940, p. 304-305.
