摘要:

The purpose of this research project is to identify how Buddhists view and manage conflict, in particular during the reconciliation phase. Through two field case studies the research analyzes how Tibetan refugees in India and Sinhalese Buddhists in Sri Lanka have managed ethnopolitical conflict, particularly the reconciliation phase, by applying Buddhist beliefs and principles. Further research objectives include defining which Buddhist principles they are utilizing in managing conflict and to establish if commonalities exist between those of differing Buddhist traditions in applying Buddhist principles to conflict; and whether these methods can be used by conflict specialists within secular contexts to help others affected by violent conflict reach forgiveness and reconciliation. The research also examines literature relevant to Buddhist teachings on conflict, and literature concerning ethnopolitical conflicts involving Buddhists. Additionally, several Buddhist organizations working with conflict resolution are studied to determine how they incorporate Buddhist principles into their activities.--Author's abstract.
