Abstract:

In a 1976 television interview, Spanish writer and 1989 Nobel Prize in Literature winner, Camilo José Cela, talks about his rebellious youth and his delight in scandalizing Spanish society in his novels, short stories and essays. His experiences as a bull fighter and actor, as well as his keen observations of the Spanish landscape in his travel books, informed the realism and complicated characters of his novels, associated with the Generation of '36 movement. In this interview with his friend Joaquin Soler Serrano, Celas' wit and multifaceted personality shine in his humorous anecdotes and observations.
