Vassar is just another superachiever (her parents named her for the college they hope she'll attend ) until an eventful visit from her grandmother turns her ambitious academic and professional plans upside down. Suddenly she finds herself preparing for a roughing-it backpacking trip to Southeast Asia, with no specific itinerary and in dubious company. At the start of her summer, she is dismayed that she'll be spending her vacation traipsing through leech-infested jungles instead of taking extra AP courses. But over the course of the book, Vassar's adventures and the people she meets lead her to make some startling life changes.
This is an excellent book for any young (or not-so-young) woman who's longing for more adventure in her life.
